About Patna
Patna, known historically as Patliputra, is the capital of Bihar and the largest city in the state. It is one of the oldest cities in the world and has been continuously inhabited throughout its existence. Historical monuments from the Ashokan and Mauryan periods are present in the city. Situated on the southern bank of the Ganges river, it is also the second largest city in eastern India. Patna was a place of notable involvement in the Indian independence movement, with the Quit India movement and campaign against indigo farming originating here. The presence of Takht Sri Patna Sahib and proximity to Bodh Gaya sees a large influx of religious tourists in Patna.
